Recently, many fires have burned through the state of Colorado. This is no new occurrence; in fact, fires burn across the Front Range just about every year. Why does this happen so often? It's because everything there is so hot and dry, begging for a spark to ignite it into a raging inferno. The world we live in and the people that live in it are just like Colorado; the world is begging to be caught up in the inferno of God's Love.
| Our team with an authentic Olympic torch |
The Olympic torch is a symbol of fire that will never go out. Every 4 years, another torch is lit, continuing the lasting effect of the torch until it will once again be passed on. This is such a great metaphor for our lives! God's love is the eternal flame that will never go out, and he decided to light us on fire. We have all been passed a torch from someone or something and have received the great love of God. There are people waiting everywhere we go to receive the continuation of this flame; the only difference is that they can't wait another 4 years! Jesus asked Peter 3 times, "Peter, Do you love me?" after Peter replies yes all three times, Jesus says this, "Feed my Sheep." We are commissioned and called to feed Jesus' sheep. If we love him, we will do what he has asked, it's that simple.
We are 3 weeks into our Olympic outreach and already God has been moving greatly. One thing that has been to our advantage is that there is no language barrier; just about everybody's first language is English. We have had plenty of opportunities to share the gospel, from conversations in the mall, running a coffee shop, playing soccer with kids, leading youth groups, to even preaching on a soap box in a square full of people.
Only 8% of people in Great Britain would consider themselves Christians, an eye popping stat that makes my stomach queasy. So many people are dry weary, and America is heading in the exact same direction. The good news of it is that all these people are about ready to catch fire, all they need is a little spark...
